Ayrshire Mining. This was the first of our illustrated mining histories to be published, and has been deservedly successful. In many ways mining is Scotland's ghost industry, many of its former settlements have virtually completely vanished, and Guthrie Hutton's researches for this book spanned the length and breadth of Ayrshire and Upper Nithsdale as he tracked down former miners and located pictures of long-lost pits. Among the many places/pits featured are Auchenharvie, Glenburn, Auchencruive, Drumley, Killoch, Polquhairn, Houldsworth, Pennyvenie, Minnivey, Mauchline, Highhouse, Barony, Kames, Afton, Knockshinnoch Castle, Fauldhead and Killochan. There are over 200 illustrations covering all aspects of mining life.
