Balmerino
Abbey is located on the south bank of
the River Tay. Founded about 1221 by Alexander II and his mother
for Cistercian monks from Melrose and rebuilt after English
raids in 1547, it was destroyed in the
Reformation and is now a romantic ruin, in the care of the
National Trust for Scotland.
