Photographs Of Dollar Scotland
Dollar
is a small town, and former burgh, at the foot of the Ochil
Hills, northeast of Alloa. Dollar Academy was
set up in 1818, funded by John McNab, a Dollar boy who made
his fortune as a sea captain; the original building was designed
by William Henry Playfair. The town had textile mills in the
late 18th and early 19th centuries and some coal-mining in the
20th.
It
is now a popular residential area and has an award winning museum.
To the north is lush, narrow Dollar Glen with bridges, paths
and ravines leading up to 15th century Castle Campbell at its
head.
