Dougie
MacLean Plant Life Years
These
songs were obviously recorded in Dougie's earlier years, his
voice is very obviously younger in several of the recordings,
to absolutely MARVELOUS effect. "Johnny Teasy-Weasel"
(which seems to have been written with the intention that it
be sung by a woman, but that is neither here nor there) and
"Leis a Lurigan" (a grand piece about sailors, if
you go for that sort of thing, which I do) are two of my favourites,
both playful and upbeat. "Rolling Home" is a very
touching piece of work (Dougie's own, of course) and "Northern
Cowboy" is a song with a message strung into brilliantly-composed
music and lyrics. All in all, this is most definitely the best,
in my opinion, of all the Dougie CDs you can buy. Probably the
best investment I've ever made.
