Tour Doune

Doune is a village northwest of Stirling, famous in the
17th century for the manufacture of pistols. It later became a cotton-manufacturing town, with mills across the river Teith at Deanston, and is now a commuter village for Stirling. To the south is Doune Castle, the well-preserved courtyard castle built in the 14th century beside the River Teith by the Duke of Albany. It was a royal castle from 1425 until the last years of the 16th century, when it came into the possession of the Earls of Moray, who restored it in the 1880s; now in the care of Historic Scotland.

Monty Python And The Holy Grail (Special Edition) [1974] Doune Castle appears numerous times in Monty Python and the Holy Grail notably as Camelot, the Castle of Guy de Lombard (with Trojan Rabbit), Swamp Castle where Sir Lancelot causes chaos at the wedding, and Castle Anthrax where Sir Galahad has an interesting offer.

On the opposite bank of the river, and partly surrounded by a winding of the stream, stood a massive castle.
