Dunkeld Family Gathering, Day One - Sunday 24 October
Check
in time at the Royal Dunkeld Hotel was 2:00pm leaving plenty
of time to freshen up and take a wee walk around Old Dunkeld
with its little white houses, and Dunkeld
Cathedral, the scene of a bloody battle during the Jacobite
rising. Of particular interest was the old Telford
Bridge which joins the previous separate towns of Dunkeld,
and Birnam, the Birnam
of MacBeth fame which is also famous for its association with
Beatrix Potter.
At
7.30 pm there was a a half-hour Welcome Cocktail Party in the
Residents Lounge of Royal Dunkeld Hotel followed by short speeches
by David
Arbuthnot from Dunkeld Archives and Catriona
Cameron from the Dunkeld Tourist Association. The Gathering
were then piped into dinner by Piper Andrew
Coulter. During the Dinner a speech was given by Malcolm
Dunkeld. After dinner, Andrew Coulter played a selection
of pipe tunes and chatted with the guests.
