Dunkeld Family Gathering, Day Two - Monday 25 October
Full Scottish Breakfast: After breakfast there was a Discussion
Forum for or a couple of hours to discover if there were any
family connections between the Dunkelds present at the First
Dunkeld Family Gathering.
Dr
Brian Thomson, from Scot
Roots, an experienced genealogist with 20 years of researching
Scottish local history and genealogy was present at the Forum.
After
the most interesting discussion Forum we visited the Dunkeld
Hermitage, and Ossian's Hall, a folly created by the Dukes
of Atholl in the 18th Century built above a delightful waterfall
on the River Braan. Around the Hermitage are some of the tallest
trees in Britain. After a short stroll along the riverbank through
woodlands with the sound of tumbling rapids in our ears we drove
North to Loch
Faskally, just outside of Pitlochry.
A packed lunch was provided to be eaten in this beautiful setting.
After
lunch we visited Edradour
Distillery, Scotland’s smallest with a work force
of three, situated just outside of Pitlochry. We toured the
distilery and tasted this very special single malt. After Edradour
we returned to Dunkeld for a free Whisky
Tasting event in the Royal Dunkeld Hotel presented by Jeremy
Law, a Dunkeld resident, and expert on Scottish Whisky. After
dinner we attended an evening of Traditional Scottish Music
in the Tap Inn in the village of Birnam, just across the Dunkeld
Bridge.
