Dunkeld
Family Gathering, Day Four - Wed 27 October
Full
Scottish Breakfast. This morning we explored
Dunkeld Cathedral and the Archives
of Dunkeld
Cathedral, which were opened especially for the Dunkeld
Family Gathering. After a lunch of soup and sandwiches at The
Royal Dunkeld Hotel we drove East to visit Glamis
Castle. The Castle
was the childhood home of The Queen Mother and birthplace of
Princess Margaret, it was also the legendary setting for Shakespeare's
Macbeth. After Glamis we drove to Eassie
to view the famous Pictish Stone. On the road back to our base
in Dunkeld we stopped to view the famous Meikleour
Beech Hedge. The Beech
Hedge, 100ft high and 580yds long, forms eastern border
of Marquis of Lansdowne's home, is said to be largest hedge
of its kind in world.
A
special Farewell Dinner followed where group members toasted
the success of the first of many Dunkeld family gatherings.
Following dinner the group visited the Enchanted forest, a spectacular
journey of light and sound in the nearby forest at The
Hermitage.
