Fortrose
Fortrose
is a small town on the Black Isle very near to Rosemarkie, North
of Inverness. It is both a holiday and dormitory town and a
popular site for spotting dolphins in the Moray Firth. Although
comparatively little remains of the great cathedral which was
built between the 13th and 15th centuries, the ruins, in the
care of Historic Scotland, dominate the town. A cairn on Chanonry
Point to the east of the town marks the supposed site at which
the Brahan Seer was burnt.
Coul House Hotel, Contin by Strathpeffer, Rosshire, Strathpeffer IV14 9ES, Scotland. Coul House is a beautiful country house hotel with stunning views over the Strathconon Valley and the Achilty Mountains. There are activities for everyone to enjoy whether its a stroll around the hotel's own 8 acres of mature woodland, to attractions further afield, including the Glen Ord and Glenmorangie whisky distilleries. With so much to see and do, Coul House is certainly a destination one should plan on enjoying for more then a couple of nights. The Prophecies of the Brahan Seer (Miscellaneous) The gift of prophecy, second-sight, or "Taibh-searachd," claimed for and believed by many to have been possessed, in an eminent degree, by Coinneach Odhar, the Brahan Seer, is one, the belief in which scientific men and others of the present day accept as unmistakable signs of looming, if not actual insanity.
Discovering
the Black Isle (Discovering S.) This text is not merely a step-by-step guide along walks or
places of interest. It is rather a means of helping the reader
towards an enjoyable personal discovery of a unique region of
Scotland, a peninsula: not an island.
