George Buchanan

George Buchanan
(1506—1582)

Scholar

Brilliant but deeply flawed scholar of European standing. He was tutor to the toddler James VI, whom he taught by fear and terror. His severe personality problems led him to write a scurrilous and libellous pamphlet about Queen Mary, and to try to poison her young son’s mind against her.
