James Hogg

James Hogg
(1770-1835)

Writer

An uneducated shepherd poet and writer who published intermittently, becoming a friend of Walter Scott and a regular contributor to the Edinburgh literary scene. He is most famed today for The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner, a book of great power but which his contemporaries found too disturbing.
