James Smith (1765-1808) - Friend of Robert Burns

A friend of Robert Burns, who wrote to him the Epistle to James Smith, which deals with Burns's affair with Elizabeth Paton. Robert Burns treated Smith as a confidant, disclosing to him information about his sexual relationships; Smith was the first to be told of Burns's marriage to Jean Armour. He died shortly after emigrating to Jamaica.
