The Campbells Leave Taymouth

No sooner was that war over than a further upheaval affected the Parish. The Breadalbane estates were broken up and the Campbells left Taymouth Castle.
The Castle had exerted a feudal influence over three centuries and a great number of people owed their employment directly to the laird. At the beginning of the nineteenth century Acharn village was built to house the
various tradesmen required for the district, and there are people alive in 1979 who remember tailors, joiners, blacksmiths, shoemakers, meal millers all plying their trades in that village. At the beginning of this century,
thirteen gardeners were still employed in the Estate gardens lying to the west of the main road on the north side at Kenmore Bridge. With the laird gone much of the estate employment ceased.
