Kenmore Develops

Kenmore had been the site of one of the many ferries which crossed the Tay and, in 1572, the laird had recognised the need for a hostelry at that point for the use of travellers. The Inn at Kenmore was built and must have been quite an impressive building having chimneys, doors and windows;luxuries which were not common at the time. Hugh Hay and his wife were installed as lease-holders. Further change took place when Sir Cohn
transferred the fayres from Inchadney to the ground in front of the new Inn. The site for the new church, a sandy knoll above the loch, was an inspired one. When it was built, Kenmore’s position as the focal point of the locality was established and the history of our Kirk of Kenmore began.
