Tour Killin
Picturesque
Killin at the west end of Loch Tay has the Falls of Dochart,
beautiful in fine weather and impressive when in spate. There
are standing stones from the Bronze Age, as well as the Healing
Stones of St. Fillan and the grave of the Celtic hero Fingal.
Finlarig Castle has a beheading pit and hanging tree. The area
provides good walks with views of Ben Lawers and Loch Tay, and
a wide range of wildlife. Excellent areas for hillwalkers.
Ben
Lawers is Perthshire's highest mountain at 1,214m (3,980 ft)
with views from the Atlantic to the North Sea. In the Scottish
National Trust's care are 3,374 hectares of the southern slopes
of the Lawers range and 1,348 hectares of the Tarmachan range,
noted for a rich variety of mountain plants. Birds include raven,
red grouse, ptarmigan, dipper and curlew. There is also a nature
trail, now fenced to exclude sheep to allow the restoration
of the vegetation.
The
Killin Hotel is situated in the central Highlands at the
west end of the Loch Tay. It is arguably the most picturesque
village in Scotland surrounded by mountains, rivers and lochs
but still within easy driving distance from Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The hotel also offers guests a Bistro restaurant and bar area
serving a wide range of food and drink.
