Canadian statesman

Glasgow-born Canadian politician who became a successful lawyer. Macdonald was a leading light in the Conservative Party and in his 34 years as premier, his influence helped bring the Maritime provinces, Manitoba and BC into the Dominion. He also secured the construction of the Canadian Pacific railroad, an enterprise vital in a country so vast.
