Old Ferryden

Old Ferryden Scotland

Old Ferryden Old Ferryden. Ferryden owes its existence to the establishment of an important ferry crossing over the River South Esk to Montrose more than 800 years ago - having crossed the river travellers could continue to all points north. The village itself began to grow from the 1700s when fishermen were encouraged to relocate there, and for the next 200 years fishing became its mainstay. Old Ferryden illustrates all aspects of life in the village, the lifeboat crew displaying their medals, Rossie Island, a fish cadgers' outing to Edzell Castle, the naming ceremony for a fishing boat and well-known shops and streets.
