Robert Aiken - (1739-1807) Lawyer
Robert Aiken. Lawyer in Ayr. As patron of Robert Burns he collected 145
subscriptions for the kilmarnock Edition of the poet's work, issued in 1786. Burns dedicated The Cotter's Saturday Night to Aiken and enjoyed a close friendship with him, despite a temporary rupture when Aiken and James Armour mutilated Burns's declaration of intent to marry JEAN armour. Most of Robert Aiken's correspondence with Burns was unfortunately destroyed after the poet's death.
