Eddi
Reader Sings
the Songs of Robert Burns is one of the finest albums to
come out of Scotland this year. With
opening track, Jamie Come Try Me , we are treated once again
to Eddi's beautiful voice backed by some lovely strings. You
sense real passion here. My Love Is Like A Red Rose is more
poetic in its lyrical content, but the strings again shine through.
Willie Stewart / Molly Rankin is a happy foray into a knees-up
vibe. Then onto Ae Fond Kiss which, is beautiful. Ye Jacobites
and Wild Mountainside are worthy of special note but its the
collection as a whole that is more than the sum of its parts.
A lovely album that joins the very good company of Eddi Reader's
other work. Jamie Come Try Me, My Love Is Like A Red Red Rose, Willie Stewart, Molly Rankine, Ae Fond Kiss, Brose And Butter, Ye Jacobites, Wild Mountainside, Charlie Is My Darling, John Anderson My Jo, Winter It Is Past, Auld Lang Syne.

The
Songs of Robert Burns This is a combination made in heaven!
Robert Burns' lyrical songs sung by one of the finest voices
in the folk business: ex-Silly Wizard's Andy M. Stewart, sensitively
accompanied by, among others, Manus Lunny. It is difficult to
single out individual songs, but the pastoral "Ca' the
Yowes to the Knowes" and the radical manifesto "Is
there for honest poverty (For A' That)" are personal favourites
of mine. This collection will have you searching for AMS's other
recordings, and Robert Burns' other songs and poems!
The
Poems and Songs of Burns A selection of songs and lyrical
poems by Robert Burns. Longer poems such as "Tam O'Shanter"
and "The Cotter's Saturday Night" are also included.
Lovers of Burn's poetry should find this selection enjoyable.
It also provides an introduction for those unfamiliar with his
work. Robert
Burns Live.
