Robert Lorimer

Robert Lorimer
(1864-1929)

Architect

One of Scotland’s most noted architects. Along with Mackintosh’s, his was the first distinctively Scottish style to emerge for over a century. He took on a variety of commissions, from Rowallan Castle in Ayrshire, to rows of colonies cottages for craftsmen in Edinburgh. Two of Lorimer’s most famous public works are also in Edinburgh: in the Thistle Chapel in St Giles’ Cathedral, and the National War Memorial at the Castle.
