Robert
Ranald McIan gave up a career on the stage to paint Scottish history
and legends. He had a studio in London and Fort William, where
he painted figures in Highland costume in both oil and watercolour.
He illustrated the Clans of the Scottish Highlands, which became
recognised as his best work.
