Amulree

Amulree,
Perthshire, is situated at the western extremity of Strath
Bran, and a good centre for exploring Glen Quaich, with Loch
Freuchie, and also for Glen Cochill and Glen Almond. The road
through Glen Cochill, leading
to Aberfeldy, is partly on the line of one of General
Wade’s old roads, and southwards from Amulree the Wade
road goes through the delightful Sma’ Glen.
Another
road goes north-westwards through Glen Quaich, and climbs
to a height of 1,672 ft., before descending very steeply (1
in 4) with a poor surface and sharp bends, to Kenmore, on
Loch Tay. To the south-west,
beyond beautiful Glen Almond, rises Ben Chonzie, 3,048 ft.
In 1715, the Clans met at Amulree, and were armed for the
Jacobite rising.
