Helmsdale

Helmsdale

Helmsdale, in Sutherland is a little fishing port of with a safe anchorage. The ruined Castle dates from 1488, and
was the scene of a double murder, in 1567, when
the Earl of Sutherland and his wife were poisoned. To the
north, the road to Berriedale winds through the scenic Navidale ravines to enter Caithness near the rocky
Ord of Caithness, at a height of more than 700 ft., with fine views towards the bare hills in the background to the north-west.
