Loch Long

Loch Long

Loch Long is a long and narrow sea loch, extending for some 16 miles from its head at Arrochar to its mouth, where the waters are joined with those of the widening Clyde estuary. Near Arrochar rises the prominent rock peak of Ben Arthur (The Cobbler), 2,891 ft., and farther south is the line of hills known as Argyll’s Bowling Green, which overlooks Loch Goil near its junction with Loch Long. At the mouth of Loch Long is Strone Point, where the Holy Loch also meets the Clyde estuary, into which at this point extends the Rosneath peninsula, dividing Loch Long from the Gare Loch.
