Bannockburn

The
following remark upon Bannockburn was made to a haughty Englishman
who had said to an old Scottish clergyman that no man of taste
conld think of remaining any time in such a country as Scotland:
”
Tastes differ. I'll take you to place not far from Stirling
where thirty thousand of your countrymen have been for five
hundred years, and they haven't thought of leaving yet.”
