Thomas Bassendyne (died 1577) - Printer

Printer of the first Bible printed in Scotland, known commonly as the Bassendyne Bible. A burgess of
the City of Edinburgh, Bassendyne studied the art of printing in Leiden and set himself up as a printer in 1567. He produced the Works of David Lyndsay in 1574 and two years later received a licence under the Privy Seal to print a Bible in association with ALexander Arbuthnot. It appeared in its final form in 1579, after Bassendyne's death.
