Tour
Scotland, Schiehallion
Overlooking
Kinloch Rannoch from the south-east is mighty Schiehallion,
(3,547 feet). This mountain is the ‘Fairy hill of the
Caledonians’ which was said to contain a magic cave whence
those who ventured inside it never returned. Its majestic cone
makes Schiehallion one of the most attractive of all Scotland’s
mountains. It looks particularly impressive when seen from the
north side
of Loch Rannoch.

Beyond
the head of Loch Rannoch, past little Loch Eigheach, and beyond
Rannoch Station where the road abruptly terminates, stretches
Rannoch Moor, twenty square miles of peat-bog, rivulets and
bog-sedge, bleak and desolate, but surrounded by some of the
finest mountain scenery in the country.
